Thought Thursday #1 -How safe is your blog?

How safe is your blog?

Over the past few days, something has occurred to me. I am sure at some point we have all though what I’m about to say next.

For this Thought Thursday I would like you to take a second to consider or maybe share your thoughts on how safe you think your blog is!

Everyone has a different level of skill when it comes to online security and understanding what’s really behind the web page. We all do our best to keep our blog safe.

Right?

I mean we can use really strong randomly generated passwords that we have to write down on paper so we can remember, we can switch that password as frequently as possible to also help.

I mean if you’re a WordPress user then JetPack seems to keep everyone’s blog safe.

Right?

Do you use a trusted plugin, like WordFence? Or possibly a third-party plugin to provide protection?  Have you ever thought they could be the way in for a hacker? This seemingly harmless plugin that should keep you safe yet doesn’t.

Odd thought.

Maybe you are super smart and always back up your blog once a day to your computer. What happens if that computer fails? Does your backup have a backup?

Perhaps’s you have gone above everything and have your entire blog backed up on another server or even a different host. If you’re a small time blog, that could be expensive.

“Argh! What to do?”

I personally have been curious about this because I did some research on google after I had 806 attacks appear overnight and almost crapped my pants!

Yes!

It was just like that. No crap in the pants although It got me thinking how safe is all of our blogs. Do you let that climbing number of attacks bother you?

Google says to ignore it because it’s not really someone trying to steal or hack you, and it’s all very complicated. I mean did you know you have the IP address of anyone ever that has been to your blog? Did you know about blacklisting IP addresses?

Clearly, …I’m being hacked!

Ya!

Probably not.

A lot of work goes into a blog, although if it’s always backed up and everything above is done. A person should hopefully be alright. I personally always do as much as possible because our blogs are our babies.

HA!

Not our real babies although information can get out of control really fast, and we have to do the best to protect ourselves!

Thursday Thought–Complete.

For a while my site had more attacks blocked than actual visitors. That freaked me out a bit as a beginning blogger! #ThatFridayLinky

  4. This is something I worry about a lot, I’ve put so much work and time into my blog and I would be heartbroken if it got hacked and I lost it all forever #thatfridaylinky

Thank You so much for coming over from #thatfridaylinky After this I plan to check out everyone’s blogs because that’s what it’s all about! It would be terrible if anyone got hacked and yes it would be crushing although if everything is backed up it shouldn’t be bad at all. In fact, one shouldn’t even bat an eye. Thanks for sharing!

It’s something I have thought about but never considered going farther than the protection I have now. There are times when it seems like my blog is under siege, but we’re holding out!

    Ooops! #ThatFridayLinky

  8. Keeping WordPress, plugins and themes updated is something which often gets ignored on self hosted sites from my experience. Most important is to understand what your host does and does not offer as a backup incase something did go wrong. I also have a cloud backup of all my photos incase of a fire or something at home. However, after reading this, I will be revisiting everything! A great reminder to us all.

Hello, thank you for stopping by Life On A Dime! Oh, yes blogger apparently is useless. Searching the different platforms I chose WordPress because it seemed like the best route, the most trusted used route. There is always commercials for new platforms although I say good luck to them. I hope you’re finding good luck with WordPress! Very welcome for linking up to #thatfridaylinky Stay Safe!

  11. I constantly get people trying to log in and access my blog. I really don’t understand it. What do they plan to do once they get in? #thatfridaylinky

    1. LifeOnADime

Really! That’s scary, right? I guess steal the domain I guess. I mean if we protect it all and back it up then that part is safe. If they do get in then I guess steal the domain or try or who knows! Lmao. 8 Billion people on this world, I’m sure a few blogs are bound to get hacked, but then what? Exactly! Thanks for stopping by from #thatfridaylinky I’ll check out your blog! Cheers Mate!
